Laser printer Brother HL-2150N - Debian 9/10 install instructions
This note applies to Brother HL-2150N but may also work on Brother HL-2140.
Debian 9 driver
I have repeatedly had success using Brother HL-2140 Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e as the driver for this printer.
Debian 10 Install instructions as network printer
Install drivers - not doing this results in that it only lists Gutenprint drivers, also install printer dialog: apt install printer-driver-all system-config-printer Open the dialog (requires X Forwarding if through SSH): /usr/bin/python3 /usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py It should appear after a while under Network printer but above Search network printer as Brother HL-2150N, select it. Connection, select: LPD/LPR-queue "BINARY_P1" Select and install this driver: Brother (recommended) > HL-2142 (recommended) > Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e
Debian Stretch 9 - Problem: Prints zoomed garbage
I previously had success also using this printer with the Generic-PCL-6-PCL-XL driver in Debian Jessie 8. But that stopped with the upgrade to Debian Stretch 9 and the printer began to print distorted zoomed parts of something unknown instead of the requested page content. The solution was to remove the printer from the printer settings and then re-add it as hpijs-pcl5e as mentioned in this note.
