DNS - How to configure domain

Setting up a domain correctly is often not easy as it can go long time between configurations, which mean that you forget how you did it.

Here is my own recommended settings:

Subdomain: *
Type: CNAME
TTL: 600
Data: yourdomain.ext (example.com for example)

Subdomain: @
Type: A
TTL: 600
Data: x.x.x.x (IP address to your server)

If you have mail, then you may need some @-subdomains more with type MX and data set to the mail servers hostnames. For Google I have 5 servers for example.

This is a personal note. Last updated: 2015-11-20 09:17:36.
